New Personal Project: Finding Beauty in Cancer

July 30, 2013 by Kimberli, under Photography, Writing.

A new blog has been started to document this project as well as my health status.  I’m currently working every other week and in chemotherapy for stage 2 breast cancer.  I WILL be okay!  The process, and visual and emotional changes, will be documented for a show and book next year.

Dear Ms. Ransom,

Just finished reading your article in the Oregonian and wanted to send you my best wishes for a healthy and speedy recovery. I think you are being very brave by being willing to look at and examine all of the complicated and painful aspects of what you are going through. Documenting your feelings as you go through this transition is a gift for all of us and I hope it will be for you, too.

I was happy to read in the article that you have a strong support system of other artists. From 2011-13 I was part of a group of artists and writers called 13 Hats (we have a web site if you’d like to see some of our joint efforts). As an artist, it was one of the most satisfying periods of my life — to be able to collaborate on a regular basis with people that I respected. Even though our circumstances are extremely different, I hope that your experiences prove to be as enriching.

I’d also like to share with you that I’m currently working with a group of artists, writers, educators, etc. to start a new community arts center here in Independence (about an hour South of PDX) where I currently live. If you are interested (when you have the energy) we could talk about creating or receiving an exhibition combining your images and writings for “Finding Beauty In Cancer.”

I’m not sure what you need or how I can be supportive but please let me know if there’s something I can do.

Kind regards,
